Leadership in the Age of AI: Seeing People First

I recently had a conversation with a friend who works in a senior position within the finance and securities sector. He shared insights that crystallized what I've been feeling about corporate culture, particularly here in India. There's currently a wave of layoffs sweeping across industries, and while the official reason is often attributed to AI and automation, the reality is deeper. Companies are asking, "How do we cut costs and grow with fewer people?" On paper, it sounds strategic, but it reveals a concerning trend—a vacuum of real leadership. Leadership has never been solely about profit margins. It's fundamentally about guiding and nurturing people. When leaders start looking at human beings as expendable, they've ceased to lead, even if their titles remain unchanged. Consider a captain of a ship. His duty isn't just to reach a destination but to ensure that his crew arrives safely. Now, imagine if offered a bigger ship and more money, he abandons his crew. This isn't an upgrade in leadership; it's abdication. In boardrooms today, we're seeing leaders choose personal gain over guiding their teams through transformative times. As AI reshapes business, we need leaders who prioritize people. Companies might survive a bad quarter, but they won't survive a leadership void. This isn't just a call for change; it's a call for a return to true leadership values. As professionals in any field, especially those of us passionate about music and creativity, our role is to lead with empathy and vision, ensuring that in the age of AI, no one gets left behind. Summary: Exploring the leadership crisis in the age of AI, emphasizing the need for human-centric leadership.
